Denver Audubon’s Bird-a-thon is an annual fundraising event centered on having fun, getting as many birds counted as possible for the month of May, and ultimately raising money to help birds & conserve bird habitat. I participated in this event last year and had so much fun spending the day with my fellow bird-nerds as we birded around south Denver. We counted over 50 species and enjoyed a fun brunch/lunch together. We also met our fundraising goal of $1000!
This year, I’d like to assemble a team to do a big day of birding and focus on birding together from about 7 am to 5 pm at several locations. Here is the tentative schedule/goal:
7 am - start at Bear Creek Greenbelt - we’ll kick off the morning here for a couple hours of birding along the creek path
10 am - Mount Falcon - we’ll see what mountainous species we can find here! We’ll plan to take an easy trail, but can alter the plan depending on everyone’s preference
12:30 pm - We’ll venture over to Hashtag in Highlands Ranch for a brunch/lunch before we finish up - see the menu here.
2 pm - we’ll end the day at Chatfield State Park, where we’ll try to explore a variety of habitats and lookouts
5 pm - we’ll try to wrap up by this time. If you want to bird more, I will consider: South Platte Park, Harriman Lake Park, Hine Lake, and Tucker Gulch to wrap up the sunset hours.

All times are tentative and may change based on how well we are doing at each location with finding birds. We will have bathrooms available at all of the stops. If you want to join me and enjoy a full day of birding and fun, sign up below!
